Coach Cruff:
Hello everyone .. I'm here to announce a trade with the Raiders that brings CB Nmandi Asomugha to the Dolphins. We are very excited to add another elite corner to our secondary, giving us arguably the best CB tandem in the league in Asomugha and Davis.
In addition, we acquired the Raiders #26 pick which we used to draft WR Treveon Wynn and the #26 pick in the FA draft.
Obviously this comes at a huge price as we give up HB Brown, WR Morgan, CB Gamble and our 1st round rookie pick next year.
The Dolphins are focused on making it back to the playoffs and making a strong push in the playoffs and it all starts with the defense. Our defense was a top 5 defense last year and the addition of Asomugha makes our defense that much better.
The departure of HB Brown means that HB James Davis will now be the #1 HB while WRs Wynn and WR Tull will flank QB Rodgers. This move brings more speed to the outside without any drop off in the run game.
Coincidently, the Dolphins face the Raiders in the 1st game of the season and look forward to seeing our old teammates.
I'll open the floor for questions ...
Reporter 1: How did the addition of WR Jackson and WR Fitzgerald to the Jets and Bills respectively influence your decision to bring in Nmandi
Coach Cruff:
To be honest, we tried to acquire Nmandi last offseason, but the trade fell through at the last minute and we continued to talk internally on whether to pursue Nmandi in the offseason.
The additions of WRs Desean Jackson and WR Larry Fitzgerald to the AFC east accelerated our pursuit and decision to acquire Nmandi and we feel that we can now match up vs. any offense in the league.
The Dolphins look forward to playing the Jets, Bills, and Patriots this year and watch as Davis and Asomugha shut down their WRs
Reporter 2: This move leaves two huge holes on your offense. Your team struggled to score points last year and was in the bottom 5 teams of the league in terms of points scored .. how does this move better your team if you gave away your best playmakers at HB and WR?
Coach Cruff:
We have a great HB in James Davis who is a similar back to Brown and we feel that he can step in and fill that void. James Davis showed last year that he is capable of carrying a heavy load and we know he'll man up and play well for us this year.
A key to this deal was being able to acquire the Raiders 26th pick. that allows us to draft WR Wynn who brings more speed and shiftyness on the outside. Obviously losing WR Morgan is huge, but we feel that Wynn's speed, youth, and energy will help in making this offense more explosive, especially when paired with WRs Tull and Taimini.
We also have a pair of solid TEs in Vega and Celek who's roles will increase in the offense.
last question ..
Reporter 3: I guess the most important question is .. who will be wearing #21 at the start of the season .. Nmandi or Davis?
Coach Cruff: Hahaha .. i'll leave that up to the players ... but i think I just saw Vontae Davis in a new Ferrari
