SEATTLE TIMES
Seattle - There could be several contributing factors with the Seahawks rising success in a tough conference, as well as league this season. Several think it's the small pieces they were able to put into place, or the large move they made to get Calvin Johnson, some others think it could of been the outspoken coach, putting faith in his players. For several seasons here in Seattle, we haven't heard much from, or about the Seahawks, being an average team in the VNFL for 3 seasons, missing the playoffs by a few games every season, and really making no news in the offseason with the market, but yet here they are, attop the NFC West (with the tie breakers).
(HAHAHA, what a name.)
2nd Year pro Jake Scott from the Texas State has emerged as one of the elite QB's in the league this season, but yet he keeps a humple approach to the game.
"When I got here a year ago, I was kinda of thrown in there, not quite understanding the offense, as well as the speed of the NFL game, from college to here was quite the step, and I didn't have anyone behind me to show me the "ropes". But thankfully my team stood next to me, as well as coaches and management. I think the offseason and film room is where I have improved the most, as well as the weapons I have around myself"
The weapons he is talking about would be TJ, Calvin, Deon, xaVier, Nate, and Branch, as well as Rookie Joker Jones.
Calvin has shined in a Seahawks uniform this year, and of course put a smile on Hawk fans, as well as Hawk management.
ON the defensive side of the ball, the Seahawks seem to be utilizing the speed and athletisism of their OLBs, two of the better ones in the league at what they do, and it seems like Lofa and 2nd year man Ellerbe are both enjoying the MLB spot. The depth at CB hasn't seem to effected the Seahawks like most had thought, rookie Brooks has stepped in nicely, as well Lucas being a nickle DB. The Seahawks opponenets are well above .500 left on the schedule, and with the NFC up for grabs, this could prove to be quite a season for football fans alike, it will be interesting to see how the Seahawks fare against the Bills, whom beat the Seahawks 2 seasons ago in their only matchup in VNFL.
