Hey guys, this isn't an official rule, but something that should be discussed cause we are a sim play league, and I want things to be as realistic to real life as possible.
I was playing chiefcq (subbing in as Phillies vs ATL in playoffs). It was 5-5 in bottom of 9th, 1 out, guy on 2nd. I got a ground ball hit, and had a guy goin to third, the hit was to SS but was slow enough my guy was into 3rd safely. My UNSIM style came into play, its something you might do without thinking, like I did on this play. See I knew that with his throw to first, his 1st baseman just doesn't react right, he takes his time, and throws the ball home, and sometimes the catcher or person at base doesn't make tag correctly even when on time.
Anyways, without thinking I was holding L1 to make a challenge play at home, realistically you might see this 2 out of 10 times in the majors, difference is, in the majors there isn't any of these AI issues. He scored cause of delayed throw, and missed tag by catcher on what shoulda been an easy throw out. I immediately aimed cheif and said that was totally unsim, I'm not taking the win off that, that was BS and I shouldn't have done that. We played it out again in exhibition 2 out my guy on 3rd. He ended up winning the game in the next inning
But see, There are allot of small bugs in the game that I think we should consider putting rules on so that we are constantly playing sim and not taking advantage of bad AI, even if it might be a close play in real life, if the AI don't play it right in the game, we shouldn't be doing it. Heres a few incidents in me and braves 2 games that we ran into, and we played it sim and didn't try and take advantage while we were on base.
- Guy on 2nd should stop at 3rd on a ground ball unless there is an error on the play, overthrow to first
- A ball hit off the wall, or hit to the corner, or hit to a guy who dove and the ball hit his glove but he didn't catch it, than your guy can't pick up the ball for a period of time. You shouldn't be taking an extra base because the AI isn't allow this guy to pickup the ball, thats just bad AI
- a linedrive groundball either to 3rd or 1st baseman that gets by them, you hit the dive button on the play as the ball is close to the infielder, it switches to the outfielder and the outfielder dives, now the ball gets past him too and goes to the wall. Have you ever seen an outfielder dive at a groundball that gets through the infield? or any ball where an infielder might have had a shot on it? NO, it don't happen, and if their diving their not diving forward at the ball. When it happened, he just kept his guy at 1st when he coulda got 2 maybe even 3 bases out of it. But thats just not sim baseball
If you can think of any other bad AI or unsim plays that we may take advantage of without thinking about please post them. Also post your opinion on if we should have rules in place, and keep track of these AI issues with the game for our league
