The local press in Dallas will be releasing a weekly articile in the Dallas Morning Gazzette called the Dallas Cowboys Weekly Report. This report will have highlights of that weeks game and the every day goings on at the Dallas Cowboys Headquarters. In this weeks segment we will highlight the interview we had with Dallas coach Wade Phillips.
So Wade can you tell us what is up with the Dallas Cowboys lately. Seems the past 2-1/2 years the franchise has reverted to those awful years between 1982 and 1990.
Well, it's been very frustrating because we feel we have the personnel in place to accomplish what we want to accomplish here. Yes we have moved some very key personnel and well it might bite us in the future, but the players gotta want to win. But from a coaching standpoint, there are some things we need to do better to put our players in position to make the plays. Thats what we are planning on doing.
We have heard grumblings from the fans lately calling for your firing. How does that affect you?
Well, it does. They pay to get entertained, and dam it, we aint been very entertaining now have we. The Cowboys have a well documented history and we need to get back to that. Just walking through the halls knowing that legends like Landry, Staubach, Hayes, Dorsett, Aikman and many others have walked these halls as well, gives you the chills. We are disgracing this place and we need to start changing. I know one thing, the ownership is very proud of the Cowboys rich history. I am sure that if they feel the product is not what they want they just might be putting up the FOR SALE sign. Well, it needs to start and end with me.
This past weeks game vs the Skins didn't seem to go the way you wanted. Especially after coming off of a bye week and beating the Eagles 2 weeks ago. Can you break down the game for us?
What's there to break down. The Skins done broke us down. I really thought we had turned the page and, wow, DeAngelo just ran rip-shod through us. We just can't keep giving the ball away and expect our D to stop teams all the time. I mean Romo has to keep playing from behind. Not a good thing in the VNFL. Too many talented teams out there. But you know, we are competing and the hump will be jumped and we will right the ship. Changes will be coming soon. There is some talk amongest the coaching staff and I about letting our offensive cooridinator Emmitt Smith take over the play calling. Seems that we need to get back to what this team was built around and we will.
Thanks Coach, and good luck the rest of the year.
