Kansas City's GM making bold moves, what they have done with trades & the draft has completely reshaped & retooled the franchise to say the least in a short period of time. Most believe for the positive, with youth in mind with every move this team is shaping up for a very bright future. Heres a look at what they've done thus far & their Week 2 depth chart, showing you what the team really looks like after all the transformation.
Well you saw the move in the offseason moving down the FA draft and picking up rookie Sean Smith suring up their secondary.
At #15 they nabbed a starting O-Lineman in Olivea, they grabbed a started DT in Thornton next, after that they grabbed the most powerful punter out there in Morstead, in the 4th round they took speedy FS Heffney, they than ended the draft with great runblocking TE & FB Tuman & Bradley, the top 2 run blockers available at their positions. So to say they had a great draft to say the least.
Already in week 1, after their first game they haven't stopped the moves, they traded away their FS Page & P Colquitt (players now expendable after picking up great replacement players in the draft, Heffney who had an INT & a forced fumble playing a huge impact in the game against Baltimore) + speedy TE Cottam & a backup lineman to get the top TE draftee this year in Pettigrew & a very talented young Lineman who will now be stepping into the lineup to gain allot of experience in Cherilus.
That trade opened up more options, with big names like Larry Johnson & all-pro LG Brian Waters it was only a matter of time before somebody bit. And the steelers with great depth came to the plate, the Chiefs received a phenominal young & talented Linebacker in Lawrence Timmons who will takeover the starting ROLB position, his potential is endless, also, they received a first round draft pick from the Steelers. Making this deal gave Cherilus (the pickup from the Lions) his spot in the starting lineup, and filled a huge hole for the Chiefs at Linebacker. It also helped them big time as going into next season theres a good chance they'll end up losing as many as 2 of their top 3 wr's & linebackers. With that draft pick they can fill 1 of those holes & with their own they can now fill the other.
Now you can see the transformation, out with the old & in with the new is truely the motto this year in Kansas City. They haven't really traded allot of their older players because... well they don't have a hole lot of talented older players, but seeing the move of Waters really showed that this team is now 100% looking at the future & although making bold moves, they are still in a position to win allot of games this season while building for a great future. Everyone knows this teams real success lies 2-3 seasons down the road, but the potential is definitely there now, its a matter of weather it will pan out or not.
Here is the teams depth chart after all this mayhem:
QB: Cassel, Thigpen, Croyle

Only 7 positions in the entire lineup don't have 1 of these players seeing significant playing time
