Meet Don Gorske: The man who has eaten 22,477 Big Macs!
It was a probably a bright sunny day of May 17, 1972 when Don Gorske turned 16 and received his car. One more event happened. Big Mac. Yes, he went to McDonald’s and vowed that he would be visiting every day to eat the Big Mac. This has turned him the biggest Big Mac lover ever! And as if this was not enough, he has kept the receipts for each and every one of the Big Mac he has ever eaten. Amazing, isn’t it?
Don Gorske has jotted down about the entire scheme of things in a book titled 22,477 Big Macs. The book is available at Barnes & Noble. Below are the excerpts from the editorial reviews:
The perfect food:
“Everything about eating Big Macs every day was perfect. .. I never had to cook. It was fast and ready within minutes after I left work every day. .I never had a craving for something different. I had found my perfect food.. The stress of having to eat a non-McDonalds meal was over.”
A promise is a promise:
“No Big Mac happened on August 13, 1994. .. I didn’t know it was possible to drive 600 miles and not see a McDonalds. . Either I go to Van Horn, TX and find the McDonalds there before they close, or I keep my promise about going to the Observatory in Fort Davis, TX. This was a no-brainer. A promise is a promise. Wouldn’t you know, we saw the McDonalds Observatory!”
My best Big Mac:
“I bit into my Big Mac and said to Gabe, ” This is the best Big Mac I ever tasted. Maybe it was because I could actually taste that day compared with most days when I can’t. Maybe I was super hungry or overly pumped about the trip. .. I will always treasure the taste of Big Mac #17,355 in Kearney, Nebraska.”
The places I’ve been:
“By 1991, I had eaten a Big Mac in all 26 Major League Baseball Stadiums, and by 1994, in all 48 contiguous United States. By 2001 I had eaten a Big Mac at all 22 NASCAR tracks, and by 2003 at all 32 National Football League venues. With all the new stadiums being built, in 2006 I ate a Big Mac at my 49th NFL venue, my 49th Major League Baseball park and at the 46th Major League Baseball park that the Milwaukee Brewers have played in.”
