--AFC SOUTH PREVIEW--
2010 Recap
The AFC South was the least competitive division in VNFL 2010, which lead to the departure of then Titans owner locdawg251 to the NFC. In-forcer moved into the AFC South and dominated the division but was never a force come playoffs. The Colts were a lock to finish in the bottom 5 teams in the league, while the Texans and Jaguars were average teams that always finished just outside of a playoff spot.
2011 Preview
The Titans remain the class of the division and Coach locdawg251 returns to his old stomping ground and should head into the season as the division favorite. However, this year he is joined by A_nimrod and thecoolx, two coaches who have at least 1 division championship under their belts and should provide the competitiveness that has been missing in this division. The Titans will rely on 3rd year RB Chris Johnson who can easily rush for 2000+ yards this upcoming season. The loss of the LB Keith Bullock will set the defense back but it is the development of QB Vince Young that will dictate whether the Titans can match up versus the big dogs of the AFC (Jets and Broncos) and make the Super Bowl as the AFC representative (something locdawg could not do in previous seasons).
Coach a_nimrod had a terrific season as the Bears head coach, leading them to an 11-5 record and a division title in season 6 of VNFL 2010. His skills will be tested in the newly formed AFC South as he will face much stiffer competition against the Titans, Jaguars, and Texans compared to the weaker 2010 NFC North. Having the opportunity to coach the Colts can only increase his chances of making the playoffs as the team is loaded on offense and have enough playmakers on defense. The key will be the health of SS Bob Sanders because it would be difficult to win with him on the injury list.
Thecoolx takes over the Jaguars franchise which did not make the playoffs in any of the six VNFL 10 seasons (actually, I’m not sure if deepthreat99 took the Jags to playoffs in season 1). Thecoolx will once again be in the same division as locdawg251 who had his number back in the NFC South days. The Jaguars have some young weapons in RB Jones-Drew, and WR Sims-Walker but their development and effectiveness might be hindered by QB David Garrard who is inconsistent and at best, an average NFL QB.. The Jaguars defense is anchored by CB Mathis, DE Kampman and an extremely solid LB crew in D. Smith, J. Durant, and K. Morrison. The Jaguars should be competitive, but it’s hard to imagine them taking over the experienced locdawg251/Titans and the talented Colts.
The Texans will be able to score points as long as QB Shaub and WR Johnson stay on the field; however, it appears that the Texans will finish last in the division just because the Colts are more talented, locdawg is a hell of a player, and thecoolx will be more competitive based on previous performances. The lost of CB Dunta Robinson will be tough, especially since there is no one on the roster that can replace that talent. The defense, however, will continue to be solid because of players like RE Super Mario Williams, MLB Ryans, and LOLB Cushing. Speaking of Cushing, who really believes that this dude isn’t taking PEDs? Seriously, what kind of lame excuse is “I thought I had cancer”. What a bum.
Locdawg251 and the Titans should get the competition they’ve been asking for, but there is a good chance this might be a “be careful what you wish for” situation. Until someone steps up and prove their worth, I’ll have to give this division to the Titans, but wouldn’t be surprised if the Colts or Jaguars end up winning the division.
Win/Loss Predictions:
Titans: 12-4 (division winner)
Colts: 10-6 (wildcard)
Jaguars: 8-8
Texans: 6-10
Next: AFC North (August 6th)
