What do you guys think on tagging up from first on a fly ball to the outfield? Personally, I think a rule should be made on this because I don't feel this is SIM play at all. Hardly ever do people tag up at first base with a fly ball into the outfield because things happen in real life and people drop fly balls or misplay them. But here on a game, I haven't seen one fly ball ever dropped, EVER. So people tag up because of this and I think it's very unrealistic.. what are your guys' thoughts?

If it is a deep fly ball and a runner has the opportunity to tag at first I do see it happen in MLB games.
I watch a lot of Cardinals games, Schumaker and Miles do it all the time when outfielders are either really deep when they catch it or backing up as they catch it.

I agree with Alviston, I have seen it down. To tell you the truth, I think it depends on how deep the flyball is; how agressive and smart the baserunner is; and how fast the runner is. On short flyballs, of course you wouldn't tag up. You'd probably go halfway in case the ball does drop. But I do get where you're coming from uNeeK on how there are never any popflys that get dropped. They should definitely have random flyballs dropped.

I know people do tag from first, that's why I said hardly ever because it isn't common. I see it only happen on deep fly balls that have A LOT of air under them because if they were lasers or hard hit liners you ALWAYS go half way because in real life you never know if those are going to drop, and when they do you're going to get bitched at for not scoring on those plays.

Tagging up from first to second on a fly ball is VERY rare in baseball, it doesnt even happen as often to say it happens once a night when 10+ games are played. I think this should be brought up for next season on a rule change. I strongly think you shouldn't be able to do it. Idealy i would like to say its a "Judgement call" like the other rules, but those are rules that get bickered about, so this would be the same. I dont mind if someone very fast does it with a guy running into a gap, but sometimes this game is glitchy and the outfielder will approach the ball like he is throwing it into the stands, or he wont approach it, either way though, I would hope owners would ONLY do it in a realistic situation anyways, but much like Uneek said, the game never has a dropped ball, and the OF's seem to get to every single ball hit up the in the air.

something i've never ever thought of but so true. I myself do it all the time, either on 1st or 2nd waiting on flyballs that might be close plays just sitting on the base waiting for the catch to go, where in the MLB their always half way, cause on close plays it can very often drop in, with this game you can easily tell when a catch will be made.
the question is, how to make a rule that doesn't ruin the gameplay. Right now the gameplay is a ton of fun, will putting a rule on this really make the game that much funner, or is it really that noticibly that unsim. IDK, but if we can get a few suggestions for rule ideas we'll put a poll up in the offseason for this

Well the largest UMSIM things we have to deal with is.....Stealing/Hit and run, and unsim pitching, i would rate this behind those two things, but defently something we could try?

At some point we have to just play the game, and remember it is a videogame. While it does get more and more realistic every year, there are always going to be little things that aren't quite right. If every one of those becomes a "rule" it takes the fun out of the game because you can't just play, you're thinking about all these "rules" that have very little effect on the game.
As we saw last season the stats were almost spot on the MLB.

Well I think for the most part we just need to remember to PLAY SIM, and the rest will fall into place, just like Alv said, to many rules put to many restrictions on situations that may arise where something we have a rule against might actually happen.

I think I just wanted to bring it up so we as a community can just be respectable and not do it when its unnecessary. It is rare for it to happen in real life, therefore it should be rare here because we are trying to make this as realistic as possible without interfering with the gameplay right? I don't think we should put like a limit on it or something, just something people shouldn't do as common courtesy. Kind of like stealing or something when you're up 10 or whatever.
